Auli Kuari Pass Trek (6 Days)

Auli is home to one of Asia's longest skiing slopes and is a haven for both skiers and trekkers. The 3 km-long slope ranges from 2,519 m to 3,049 m and offers breathtaking views of Himalayan giants like Nanda Devi (7,817 m), Kamet (7,756 m), Mana Parvat (7,273 m), and Dunagiri (7,066 m). Auli is accessible via cable car from Joshimath, making it a perfect hill retreat even in summer with its vast grassy slopes and views of the Alaknanda Gorge.

The Kuari Pass trek, also known as the Curzon Trail, is a historically significant route named after Lord Curzon who explored it in 1905. It is a favorite among trekkers, offering wide panoramic views of majestic peaks such as Nanda Devi, Trishul, Kamet, Dunagiri, and Chaukhamba. The trail passes through rhododendron forests, lush meadows, and high-altitude ridges. Whether you’re new to trekking or an experienced explorer, the Kuari Pass route promises an unforgettable Himalayan experience.

Trek Itinerary

Day 1: Haridwar to Joshimath – Begin the journey with a scenic 10-hour drive covering 260 km. En route, visit Devprayag where Bhagirathi and Alaknanda meet to form the Ganges. Reach Joshimath, a key base for treks and pilgrimages.

Day 2: Joshimath to Chitrakhana – Drive to Dhak village and begin your trek through rhododendron, oak, and hemlock forests to Chitrakhana (3310 m). Camp near the meadow with views of Chaukhamba and other snow-capped ridges.

Day 3: Chitrakhana to Khulara Bugyal via Tali Top – Trek around 6 km through blooming rhododendrons (April–May), reaching Tali Top and finally Khulara Bugyal, a high alpine meadow perfect for camping.

Day 4: Khulara Bugyal to Kuari Pass and back – Start early and ascend to Khullar Top, then trek across snow patches to Kuari Pass. Enjoy stunning views of Nanda Devi and other Himalayan peaks. Return to Tali Top for an evening bonfire and dinner.

Day 5: Tali to Joshimath via Auli – Descend alongside the Rishi Ganga River and pass through Auli, known for its ski resort operated by GMVN. Drive from Auli to Joshimath for overnight stay.

Day 6: Joshimath to Haridwar – Drive back to Haridwar. If time permits, witness the serene Ganga Aarti at Har Ki Pauri before concluding the trek.

The trek ends with enriching experiences and unforgettable Himalayan views.
